A fire has broken out at Chatham Docks

The crew is fighting the fire with breathing apparatus, high-pressure hoses and a high-altitude vehicle.

Because of the smoke, residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed.

Medway Borough Council said: “Due to a major fire at Chatham Docks, you are advised not to travel to the area this morning. We will keep you updated.”

Last year an inferno destroyed the nearby Chatham Freight Warehouse – ten locomotives and 50 firefighters were on duty.
