Hulu’s ‘This Fool,’ a South Central LA comedy with a Coen Brothers spin

As the star and co-creator, comedian Chris Estrada draws on his real life for Hulu’s This Fool.

Estrada draws on elements of his stand-up comedy and his own life to play Julio Lopez, a 30-year-old who still lives at home with his mother in south Los Angeles and finds every excuse not to connect with his friends deal with own problems.

“The way we presented the show was like it was ‘Friday,’ but directed by the Coen brothers,” Estrada said.

The 10-episode comedy series, which premieres on Friday, August 12, follows Julio in his private life as he works for a nonprofit that rehabs gang members.
