Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County lowers adoption fees

The 12-year-old Chihuahua is among more than 700 animals currently cared for by the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County.

TACOMA, Wash. — A 12-year-old Chihuahua was found abandoned in a bag in Tacoma on Tuesday.

A Good Samaritan found her next to her car and took her to the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County, where she is currently receiving urgent medical attention.

She has severe skin problems all over her body, causing her to constantly bite and scratch herself. Vets are working to relieve their pain with antibiotics.

According to the shelter, they are currently caring for more than 700 animals. Because of this, they are reducing their adoption fees for a limited time to make room and find loving homes for the animals.

As of Thursday, adoption fees for critters (rabbits, reptiles, etc.) are $5, $25 for adult cats, and $50 for adult dogs. The price drop comes as part of the nationwide Empty the Shelter campaign in partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation.

The shelter’s adoption center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm

The reduced prices are available until October 8th. To view all available animals, visit the shelter’s website.

Each adoptable pet has been health screened by the shelter’s veterinary staff, has been spayed or neutered, has had its first vaccines and is microchipped with national registration.

For those unable to adopt, the shelter is always accepting donations.
