I bought a Home Depot tiny home for $27,000 – we were debt-free within nine months and then sold it for $300,000

Tiny homeowners made fortunes off their property after buying it for just a fraction of what they could resell it for.

Nick and Meghan Lucido bought a shed from Home Depot for about $27,000 in 2019, then sold it for $312,000 in April 2021 after living in it for just over a year.

Buying the tiny house came at a time when the couple was struggling with debt, making the sale a very special moment for them.

“We’ve never missed a mortgage payment,” Nick said The post in 2022.

“We were both just very young – young professionals. And we had two brand new cars and a brand new house and the debt was just over our heads.

“We saw a two-story shed in the Home Depot parking lot and we said, ‘I think we could work that out.'”

The couple bought land for $40,000 and then spent $60,000 renovating the home to make it habitable with plumbing and heating systems.

“We bought our code book, met with the local law enforcement agency and did whatever it took to make it a home,” Nick said CBS News at that time.

“It was very radical and extreme, but we didn’t want it any other way.”

Experience taught the couple that a home can take just the essentials and make it work.

“A home is really just a place to lay your head down at night and just relax and recharge your batteries,” he told CBS.

“We didn’t spend much time inside. When you have eight hectares of land in the middle of the forest, you have the freedom to do whatever you want.”

Meghan explained that they are happy with their decision to sell the property rather than Airbnb because it seems like the timing is perfect for the type of homes people are looking for.

“A lot of people were telling us to use Airbnb,” Meghan told CBS.

“It was like, ‘Let’s just list it and see what happens.’ And we got a lot of hits on it. It was like, ‘Oh, maybe people will like that.'”

Nick added, “I think it was an ideal location, and with the market being what it was then, people were fleeing Atlanta and the greater area and wanted a little privacy and seclusion, and I think this property needed a lot.” has brought.”
