I got Instagram years ago and I thought it was an editing app no-one could see – then something NSFW happened

WHILE many of us look back at our Instagram and cringe at some of the filters we’ve used and captions we’ve written, one woman said her early photos cut the pie.

When Instagram first came out, it mistakenly assumed it was just a personal editing app and not a public social media platform.

One woman said she was an Instagram newbie when she first downloaded the app over a decade ago

TikToker Macaile (@macaile) said she accidentally posted inappropriate photos of herself on Instagram.

In one video, the young blonde began: “Years ago I had a friend who had a really cute background on her phone and I was like, ‘Omg. That looks so cute. How did you edit it?’

“And she said, ‘I used Instagram.'”

Macaile had never heard of the app, but she downloaded it hoping to achieve a similar effect on her pictures.

“I thought it was just a photo editing app and started editing my photos with it.”

What started as a way to enhance innocent photos like selfies and group shots turned into something more personal.

“Eventually I started using it to edit more, how shall we put it, risqué photos. Because adding the filter made them look better.

“Without realizing it, I created an entire feed of photos that was public.”

Since she didn’t follow anyone and didn’t have any followers herself, she didn’t think twice about it.

“I just thought, ‘This is great. This is my stream of edited photos. It’s just the way they do it on the app.’”

That all changed after she got a like on one of the pictures.

“Imagine my horror when I realized how many photos were only in the public domain for the world to see.

Although she was scared at the moment, she now looks back and laughs.

“You looked great. At least they had a filter on,” she said humorously.

“But I almost died. Deleted my entire feed. Any edits I made were lost. I didn’t care. Got her out of there as soon as possible and started over.”

However, in the comments, people said she is not alone.

“I DID THAT TOO, omg. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one,” read one comment.

“Snapchat came out first. I accidentally posted a picture of my legs while sitting on the toilet. Until a friend told me and I immediately deleted it,” added another.

Although Macaile can laugh about the mishap today, when it happened she said she did "about died" with embarrassment
