I live in Italy – here’s the big mistake tourists always make when buying ice cream

A TIKTOK star has warned tourists about being “scammed” when buying ice cream in Italy.
Ciara Walsh posted a video on the social media platform warning tourists in Italy not to buy ice cream from shops that had a mountain of ice cream on display.
Ciara warned vacationers that real gelatins don’t flaunt the product in large quantities and in bright colors.
Ciara, from Ireland, said tourists should avoid shops that have “unnaturally colored icebergs”.
In a second video clip, Ciara explained that such stores sold ice cream that was full of “preservatives and emulsifiers.”
Ciara, who has 33,000 followers on TikTok, advised tourists to avoid the type of gelataria that offers large quantities of ice cream.
Ciara, who describes herself as an Irish artist living in Italy, said: “Don’t get scammed in Italy, make sure you get the right ice cream.”
“A lot of gelatarias in Italy are really geared towards tourists and you can tell that by the fact that they have a mountain of ice cream.”
“But the reality is that you are not allowed to see the ice.
“If you go to the gelataria, you shouldn’t be able to see it.”
However, some members of the public seemed to disagree with Ciara’s thoughts on ice cream.
One man said, “I got ice cream from a place where there was a mountain and it was the best ice cream I’ve ever had, it was so good.”
Another user wrote, “There are gelaterias that don’t keep the ice cream hidden like in this video, but they’re just as good.”
One user suggested that the type of gelataria that showcases ice cream is now out of fashion.
One user wrote, “Lots of old (gelaterias) had the ‘mountain’ when I was a kid, a long, long time ago.”
A man said the best ice cream was in Sicily.
