I lost 150 lbs – men never wanted to date me when I was ‘fat,’ but they say I’m ‘so pretty now’

Before losing weight, one influencer said she was rejected by men and cruelly commented on by others.
Now she’s lost weight and gained the confidence to dismiss the passive-aggressive comments she hears instead.

Lex Hess (@lex_hess) opened up about her weight loss journey in a series of two videos on her page.
In the first, she opened up about the heartbreaking interactions that led her to change anything at all.
Hess shared a series of videos and snaps from the past when she was 150 pounds heavier.
Voiceover and captions shared a shared experience for Hess at the time.

“Would you go out with her?” Writing in the caption, Hess reenacted a hypothetical conversation.
The answer, she said, was, “No, she’s fat.”
“That, um… that hurt, you know?” the off-voice continued. “And I think that flipped a switch in me.”
When a “switch flipped” was mentioned in the voiceover and caption, Hess’ clips changed dramatically.
Now they all showed Hess, visibly smaller, in workout clothes shredded at the gym.
She was candid about how flashy the video was. “It made me emotional,” Hess admitted in the video description.
To lighten the mood, she danced and acted silly in another video, complete with neon lights and club music.
Hess captioned this video, “Things Boys Have Been Saying To Me Since I Lost 150 Pounds.”
She did a handful of exaggerated dance moves as the “compliments” hit the screen.
“Oh wow you don’t look like you used to be big anymore,” said one.
Another told her: “OMG you are so pretty now.”
One even said, “That’s why you have such a good personality.”

In the comments section, Hess said she is still in touch with the man who made the “good personality” comment.
“The guy who said that to me still checks Facetime every now and then and apologizes,” she wrote.
Other viewers agreed that the most annoying aspect of losing weight was the rude comments.
“The ‘you look so pretty now’ is just an insidious compliment,” wrote one woman. “Like what I wasn’t pretty before?”

Another said she had the same headache.
“Bro, I’m not even close to my goal and I already have messages from guys in high school,” she complained.
