I made a $10 Lowe’s decorative pumpkin look like a pricey Pottery Barn buy – follow my baking soda tip for best results

For many people who are eagerly counting down the days until Halloween, the spooky season has already begun.
DIY fanatics are experimenting with their artistic skills amid the trend of turning budget fall decor into luxe home goods.
Brie Thomason (@briethomason) shared her attempt to overhaul the look of cheap plastic pumpkins in a video shared with nearly 37,000 followers on TikTok.
She usually posts fashion content and gives a glimpse into her life as a professional photographer.
She admitted that she didn’t have high expectations about how her attempt at embracing the fall decorating trend would work out.
“I tried Pottery Barn’s viral pumpkin hack. This is how it went…” read the text above the video.

Brie showed off a $10 pumpkin she bought at Lowe’s that was bright orange and shiny.
She combined orange, brown and white paint in a bowl as she prepared to change the look of the carved plastic pumpkin.
The text continued: “Pro tip: Be sure to add multiple layers to change the shade!”
“Add more baking soda than you think. It should almost be a paste!”
After covering the pumpkins with the paint and allowing them to dry, the finished appearance could fool anyone into thinking they were expensive ceramics.
“I love her!” Brie said.
She added in the caption: “It went a lot better than I thought! I used colors – pumpkin orange, true brown and white.”
The post came as Pottery Barn was selling a set of three terracotta jack-o-lanterns for around $218.
Brie’s video quickly received over 1,200 likes and a flood of comments from people impressed with the end results.
One person wrote: “They turned out so good.”
Another said: “I loveeee.”
A third commented: “So cute! Do you think you need a matte top coat to keep them out?”

Brie replied: “They were very light so I would be worried about them flying off, but other than that, yeah!
“I would spray paint on the top coat so it doesn’t ruin the texture.”
