“I might give Stevie a call” – Jordan Henderson admits he is hopeful Gerrard can do Liverpool big favor against Manchester City

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has jokingly admitted he could hand club legend Steven Gerrard a call to support his side against Manchester City.

Henderson’s Red Devils enter the final day of the season (May 22), just one point behind City in the race to the Premier League title.

That means Liverpool need Manchester City to suffer defeat to Aston Villa to bring the title back to Anfield.

Steven Gerrard will take charge of Villa’s side against Man City at Villa Park and the former Liverpool captain will give his old side a win.

Henderson certainly hopes so, as he spoke after the team’s impressive 2-1 comeback win over Southampton on May 17.

He talked to reporters about not wanting fatigue along with trying to focus on what his side can only do (via Watch Anfield):

“I think the national cup final at the weekend gave us a little bit of motivation. Some players fell and bruised but we used the whole squad to have fresh feet on the ground. the pitch. Hopefully the players will rest on Sunday.”

“It’s hard to focus on the game when you can hear what’s going on, but we need to focus on our own game.”

Henderson then joked that he would speak to Villa Gerrard boss before the final day of the season, as said by same source:

“I can call Stevie this week, hope he can help us!”

Even an Aston Villa draw with Man City may not be enough as the Red Devils are six goals short to turn the tide.

But all eyes will be on what promises to be an exciting closing day for the exciting Premier League title race.

Can Aston Villa shock Manchester City and hand Liverpool the title?

Aston Villa have had a tumultuous season with the sacking of Dean Smith in November and the appointment of Steven Gerrard shortly thereafter.

Despite a promising start at Villa Park, Gerrard’s side fell short and it was not the most impressive season for the former England captain.

However, the Villains have plagued several top teams throughout the season, including Manchester City.

Aston Villa took issue with Pep Guardiola’s side in the reverse fixture and were able to earn a draw after pouring rain on City’s goal in the second half.

Manchester City will eventually win 2-1 but it is encouraging that Liverpool will enter a great final day.
