I served a diner a £175 lobster at my posh holiday restaurant – but what she did with it left everyone stunned

A woman who treated herself to a £175 lobster at a fancy Italian restaurant shocked diners after releasing it back into the sea.

Guests at the Gente di Mare restaurant in Sardinia were stunned when the tourist freed the crustacean before it could be prepared by the renowned eatery’s chefs.

The Swiss woman went to a fish restaurant with her husband and ordered the Catalan lobster with linguine.

Antonio Fasolino, who runs the restaurant with his brother Gianluca, told local media: “At first I thought she was joking.

“Then I understood that the lady was serious and wanted to do something good.”

Antonio told how he took the lobster out of the tank and weighed it in the kitchen.

He then told the couple that the lobster weighed about 4.5 pounds and the price for the crustacean would be a whopping 175 pounds.

The live lobster was then removed and placed in a clear bucket next to the couple’s table.

The concerned woman apparently asked whether the lobster could “hurt” if it was released from high on the deck.

After those present assured her that this would not be the case, she carefully dropped it through a metal railing while her husband and another person filmed.

As soon as it touched the water, the lobster swam away, local media reports.

Antonio told local media: “When I saw their joy and excitement, I was also touched.

“She was very happy and excited that we were able to fulfill her wish and we were happy for her.”

In 2021, an extremely rare blue lobster was rescued just minutes before it ended up in a boiling pot.

Chef Austin Hopley suffered a “crisis of conscience” when he realized how rare the lobster was.

The odds of seeing a blue lobster are 200 million to one.
