A MAN revealed how he spent £500 on an old horsebox and transformed it into a luxurious tiny house – all by watching simple YouTube videos.
Khylen Baldwin launched the DIY project during the crushing Covid-19 lockdowns and has since completed the impressive transformation.
What was originally a “complete impulse buy” – the RV is now making a decent profit on Airbnb.
In 2020, the Devon man bought the dilapidated vehicle on Facebook Marketplace for just £500.
Pictures of the car from the 1980s showed its unremarkable paintwork and unkempt interior.
From then on, the 37-year-old man told Business Insider that the worn-out motor “just sat around in his backyard” while he figured out what to do with it.
He said, “I could see in my head it was going to look amazing.”
Baldwin’s first step was to gut the interiors and add floor-to-ceiling windows that allowed for “much-needed light.”
The Briton then went to the trouble of installing the water pipes himself and also wiring the solar modules.
He also ripped out the front seats and turned the driver’s cab into a double bed.
Though a teacher at heart, Baldwin said he turned to YouTube to help him build the mobile home.
He also managed to snag a trailer, which his mate carted to his property on a tractor.
Baldwin converted it into an enclosed area, complemented with a bathroom and composting toilet.
The caravan itself is 7ft wide and 21ft long and has two double beds, a kitchen, wood stove and indoor seating area.
He said, “I decorated it the same way I decorated my house.”
Baldwin claimed the whole package could sleep a family of four and now rents it out on Airbnb for around £70 a night.
After completing the remodel of his tiny luxury home, Baldwin has his sights set on a new project.
He said, “If I could find something else that was the same size, like an army truck, I’d love to do it.”
Another inventive man has shared that he hated paying rent so much that he converted his car into a tiny house.
A couple revealed how they spent thousands of pounds converting a van into a stunning house on wheels – and now they’re traveling the world.
