I thought my little girl had the flu when she came down with a cough… the truth was every parents worst nightmare

A mother thought her little girl had the flu when she developed a cough.
Mum Kirsten noted that four-year-old Kyra had started showing cold symptoms just days after Christmas.

But when Kyra woke up complaining of back pain and a fever, Kirsten knew something was wrong.
The four-year-old was taken to the hospital, where it was found that her oxygen saturation was extremely low.
This prompted doctors to test for leukemia, a type of cancer that infects white blood cells.
Pregnant mum Kirsten told the Manchester Evening News: “We just wanted them to do what they can.
“They had blood samples and they did a lot of tests to find out what the infection was and what was wrong with it.
“We couldn’t believe it. There was just no way.”
Kirsten explained that they celebrated a normal Christmas and believed Kyra’s symptoms were those of the flu that was common at the time.
A few days after the New Year, the little girl developed a fever and began saying that her legs and back hurt.
The four-year-old had also completely lost his appetite.
After multiple tests, it was confirmed that Kyra had leukemia, leaving her parents shocked and heartbroken.
“We could never have foreseen this – it surprised us, especially since she was laughing and smiling like that a few days before. It broke us,” her mother added.
“We kept asking the doctors if there was anything we could have overheard.
“They told us she could have had it up to two weeks.
“If she hadn’t gotten sick, we might not have known and it might have been too late. There’s so much to process.
“She doesn’t know what’s going on. She’s really confused and just wants to go home, it breaks our hearts.
“If the doctors come with masks, she thinks they will hurt her.”
Fortunately, the leukemia cells are not present in Kyra’s spinal fluid and her cancer will be curable.
The brave little one has been in the hospital for a week and will be staying there for just over a month to undergo chemotherapy.
Treatment can take up to three years, but Kyra’s prognosis looks positive.
Kyra’s aunt Stephanie started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the family.
