I took an EV that everyone loves for test drive… but it’s got dodgy brakes, weak suspension & is a nightmare to drive

A car expert who test drove an electric vehicle everyone loves says it has problematic brakes and weak suspension and is a nightmare to drive.
The ID.5 is Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV coupe and a more compact alternative to the brand’s ID.4.
It’s available in three rear-wheel drive (RWD) ‘Pro’ configurations: Style at £50,625, Tech at £54,020 and Max at £57,635.
They all have an 81 kWh battery (or 77 kWh net), an output of 128 kW (172 hp) and a torque of 235 Nm.
There is also the “Pro Performance” line and the GTX 4MOTION style.
Alex Robbins tested the latest electric vehicle from the popular German manufacturer.
He praised the vehicle’s size, saying it offers plenty of space and a “huge” trunk.
However, the reviewer criticized the ID.5’s smoothness and stability, claiming that there were “more comfortable electric vehicles” that cost less.
“The brake pedal does a good job of combining friction and regenerative braking until you’re almost to a standstill, and at that point the brakes can get pretty snappy,” Alex wrote in the telegraph.
He continued: “Also, the ride feels acceptable at first, but the further you drive, the more it starts to be annoying.”
“In the middle part of the travel, so in the city, the suspension feels more stupid; it’s not sharp-edged, but it just doesn’t react fast enough.”
“This means that any small imperfections in the road surface are passed on to the interior, as if the shock absorbers were made of pine wood.”
When it comes to competition, there are numerous all-electric SUVs to consider: Hyundai Ioniq 5 77kWh Ultimate, Skoda Enyaq iV 80 Coupe EcoSuite Plus and Tesla Model Y Long Range.
It comes as a motorist took to TikTok to complain about the Tesla Model Y, billionaire Elon Musk’s company’s best-selling electric vehicle.
The tiktoker named Tom posts on his channel The fast chargespoke about the EV in an interview 49 second clip which has gone viral.
He began by saying, “Here are some things I like and dislike about the Tesla Model Y, one of the most popular electric vehicles in the UK right now.”
