I tried Matalan’s closing down sale & found kids Christmas essential for £1.50 – there’s gifts from 50p too

MATALAN is holding a major sale after announcing it is pulling the plug on one of its stores.

The fashion retailer, which has 250 stores across the UK, announced in August that its clearance store in Renfrew would be closing.

The Blythswood Retail Park branch will permanently close later this month.

That’s why Matalan has launched a massive clearance sale on all items – with already reduced items reduced even further.

I visited the Renfrew store to see what home and fashion items were available at great prices.

I wasn’t disappointed – some items are available for as little as 50p.

And there are the perfect pieces for parents looking to get organized for the festive season.

I found adorable children’s Christmas essentials for just £1.50.

The festive rompers are ideal for the period before December 25th, for both little boys and girls.

There are a range of colors and styles on store shelves, with one gray onesie reading: “Dear Santa, I have been very, very good.”

While another is cream colored and covered in beige reindeer, stockings and mistletoe.

I also spotted an adorable red baby outfit covered in stars with a gold inscription on the front that reads “A Christmas Wish.”

It sat next to a white onesie with little Santas, Rudolphs, Christmas pudding and snowmen on it.

All outfits were on sale from £7 to just £1.50.

A super cute white baby Christmas romper was also on sale.

The front of the white long-sleeved outfit reads “Merry & Bright” in colorful letters.

And it was half price – just £3 instead of £6.

There were also a number of other items on offer – including baby shoes for £3.50 instead of £7.50.

And bargain hunters can secure discounted household items that could even be suitable as Christmas presents.

White and gold coasters with letters in the middle were just 50p.

Meanwhile, customers were able to snap up a giant black bamboo-framed mirror for just £14.

Part of the store’s Ibiza trend, the mirror features a loop at the top for easy hanging.

It has a classic round shape and is finished with a sturdy and attractive frame – making it the perfect item to brighten up your interior.

If you’re looking for a bargain, you’ll have to be quick because the store will close for the last time on September 30th.

Announcing the sad news, Matalan staff said last month: “As many of you may have heard, the Matalan Clearance Store here in Renfrew will be closing.”

“Our last day will be Saturday September 30th.

“We would like to thank you all for your trust over the years and hope to see many of you in store before we close.”

Shoppers were left “heartbroken” over the shocking closure and took to social media with a flood of comments.

One wrote: “It’s such a shame to lose this store. We’ve gotten a lot of great bargains over the years.”

Another said: “Except. I went there every few weeks and picked up some great things.”

A third added: “I’m heartbroken.”

Retailers have been struggling since the pandemic as shoppers cut spending due to staggering inflation.

Rising energy costs and the shift to online shopping are also taking their toll and many high street stores are struggling to keep running.
