I was banned from my easyJet flight with my godson after making very easy passport mistake

A WOMAN said she was “upset and embarrassed” after being banned from her flight after a simple passport error.

Johanne Morris and her godson Chayce Pearson traveled to Portugal with easyJet for a months-planned holiday.

Although she had no problems booking her flights or going through security at Gatwick Airport, she said they were stopped at the gates.

She told the Mirror: “I was asked to scan my boarding pass on the machine, which I did, it then showed a notification saying I can’t fly, in red writing.”

Staff then explained that her passport was indeed outdated due to new rules that have been in place since Brexit.

John’s passport was issued on July 9, 2012 but expired on August 9, 2022.

Although Johannes’ flight was in April last year, her passport had expired as it had to be valid for at least three months to travel to Europe – as extra months are no longer included.

That means her passport really did expire in July 2022.

Not only was she banned from boarding her flight, but she said £260 was left out of her pocket.

Johanne said they were “treated like criminals” as they were escorted out of the airport.

She continued, “I found this very upsetting and left us in a state of embarrassment.”

An easyJet spokesman said: “EasyJet follows current government regulations on passport validity as set out by the governments in which we operate.

“Unfortunately, as Ms Morris’s passport was not valid for her flight, we were unable to allow her to travel on this occasion.

“We are reminding customers via email during booking and prior to travel to ensure they are aware of the travel requirements for the destination they are flying to and it is customers’ responsibility to ensure they are aware of have the correct valid travel documents.

“We are sorry to hear about Ms Morris’ experience leaving the airport and we are looking into this with our ground handling provider and the airport.”

Johanne is not the first person to be surprised by the new rules.

Mum Kate Barke was prevented from boarding her Ryanair flight to Mallorca with her family earlier this year for the same reason.

And a woman’s £2,000 holiday was ruined for the same reason.
