However, they had to disembark the plane before takeoff and return to the terminal while an issue was being addressed.

The two groups of friends met over drinks in the departure lounge and Lisa and Jamie, both 56, hit it off.

Lisa, a surveyor’s personal assistant, said: “We are very grateful for the delay, for the first time in our lives, otherwise we probably would not have met.”

She said of their chance meeting in November 2019: “We sat and had drinks and didn’t stop looking at each other.

“It was like being kids again.

“It was love at first sight for both of us.”

Jamie said that on the plane he waited for the toilet line to line up with Lisa’s seat so the two could talk.

He said, “Later I worked up the courage to give Lisa my business card, but her friend shouted, ‘She wrote her number on a Tui medical bag.'”

“I have a photo of it now.”

During their trip to Tenerife, the divorced met every night and their relationship continued when they returned home to Ferndown, Dorset.

They will be married in Paphos, Cyprus next month.

Tui UK said: “Nobody likes a flight delay, but clearly this one should happen.”

“We wish them a happy life together.”
