“I was like, yeah I can do something big”

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) slugger Rajat Patidar said he was confident of achieving something big since the encounter against Gujarat Titans (GT) earlier in the campaign. The 28-year-old registered his first IPL fifty against the league leaders in an afternoon encounter against the league leaders.

After going unsold at the auction, Patidar once again became part of the RCB setup after coming in as a replacement for Luvnith Sisodia. After Virat Kohli moved to the front of the order, the right-handed slugger occupied the vacant No. 3 spot and made his own. After a memorable century in the Eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants, Patidar now has 275 runs in seven games.

Discussing his approach after coming out to bat in the first overself on RCB Match Day, Patidar said:

“We were down three wickets so my plan was to stay in the current situation and just build a partnership in the middle. Right in my second game against GT I thought yes I can do something big. I’m just concentrating on my process that I’ve done so far.”

The Madhya Pradesh-born player made his debut last season but struggled to assert himself on both legs. This time he capitalized on his chances by hitting 52 of 32 deliveries in his second match.

Patidar became the first player to register 100 in an Eliminator contest. He hit an unbeaten 112 from 54 deliveries to put RCB at 207-4 in the first innings.

“You feel great when you contribute like this to your team” – Rajat Patidar

The 28-year-old’s efforts didn’t end in vain as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) missed the target by 14 runs. RCB managed to clear the eliminator’s hurdle for the third consecutive try.

Admitting that it feels great to contribute to the team’s victory in this way, he said:

“Obviously contributing to your team like that makes you feel great. So it always feels great and to be on the winning note at the end is just a very good moment.”

The side led by Faf du Plessis take on the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for a possible fourth appearance in the IPL Finals. The second qualifier will be held on May 27th (Friday) in Ahmedabad. “I was like, yeah I can do something big”
