I was quoted £1k for my dream staircase so transformed it myself for less than £200 – it was so easy, you can do it too

An interior designer has revealed she was offered a whopping £1,000 for her dream staircase.
So she decided to take matters into her own hands, embark on DIY and remodel it herself—and save a lot of money in the process.
Laura runs a social media account (@thehexagonalhouse) is dedicated to the topics “DIY, upcycling and interior”.
And in one of her latest posts, she impressively revealed the before and after of the central staircase in her home.
She showed that the staircase had previously looked dull, worn and beige, but that her brand new navy blue design with a cute brown runner hit just the right decor notes.
But Laura admitted things hadn’t gone smoothly after initially being told a staggering amount to transform her staircase.
She explained, “I am so pleased with this budget stair renovation.
“I used 3.5 liter Farrow and Ball paint which cost £114 and the treads cost £70. So the whole thing cost less than £200.”
Laura added: “Considering I was offered over £1,000 for one runner alone, I’d say I did pretty well.”
So how did she achieve the look that has saved her over £800?
Laura showed off her method to her 22.9k followers and said she was thrilled that her previously “dingy” staircase got an upgrade.
She said: “First I ripped up the shabby old carpet – and removed a lot of carpet grabs.
“I removed all the staples and tacks from the carpet and then gave the stairs two coats of modern Hague Blue eggshell paint from Farrow and Ball.”
After the paint was completely dry, Laura got down to work on the center point of the stair – her homemade runner.
She revealed: “I found these cool stair treads on Amazon for £70 – I was offered £1,000 for a rug so they were fab.”
“They were super easy to install, you just glue them on – and here’s the finished staircase.”
Then Laura showed the stairs from the top while the camera panned to show how she put the finishing touches on the banister, including some floral decorations.
And her TikTok followers couldn’t believe how luxurious and expensive they looked.
