Ian Wright delighted by Liverpool transfer news with Arsenal target

Ian Wright says Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool transfer target Cody Gakpo from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven is “fantastic” as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (26/12/22 at 23:00).
The Arsenal legend opened up about the “incredible” numbers Gakpo has put up and the performances he put on for the Netherlands at the recently concluded 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
For some, that signing really shocked them no more than Liverpool-mad pundit Jose Enrique, who didn’t expect Gakpo to be signed by wanton owners FSG.
In addition, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been keen on the 23-year-old but instead he travels to Merseyside in January.
It’s a statement of intent from the Reds who want to add more faces to their roster, with Wright adding they are “ready to go again”, particularly if they sign Jude Bellingham.
“Incredible numbers,” Wright said. “It’s fantastic for 23, I have to say. You can see what Liverpool are trying to do, they are trying to build.
“Gakpo, I thought he was fantastic at the World Cup, a lot of people said. Then Jude Bellingham was fantastic at 19 at the World Cup.
“If Liverpool go there you can see they are preparing to go again.”
JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are expected to be busy during the January transfer window, with the duo battling for very different goals this season in the Premier League.
Not many would have predicted it at the start of the season, but the Gunners sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
That’s a staggering 15 points clear of Liverpool, who are hovering outside of the Champions League spots after 15 games.
