Icy, snowy conditions cancel school in south Puget Sound

KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. – Frost and snowfall on Thursday morning canceled classes across the South Sound and Kitsap Peninsula as teams worked to clear and thaw roads.

Favorite areas to see snowfall on Thursday morning are on the Olympic Peninsula, including parts of the Washington coast, and even the I-5 corridor from Olympia to Chehalis and the Kitsap Peninsula and Hood Canal when Low pressure near the southwest coast pulls moisture into the area.
A KING 5 viewer in the Skokomish Valley reported 9.5 inches of snow on Thursday morning.

close schools
Schools across Kitsap and South Sound Counties were closed or delayed due to weather conditions.
Port Angeles, Central Kitsap, Bremerton, Hood Canal and Olympia have all announced school closures. Tacoma and other Pierce County school districts have announced the start of school two hours late.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is advising drivers to take extra precautions while commuting to work this morning.
WSDOT teams are working to remove half of the roll following a collision this morning near Tumwater. Interstate 5 northbound has been reduced to one lane.
