“Idiots, scumbags, disgrace” – Roy Keane sets off on astonishing rant on incident after Manchester City 3-2 Aston Villa

Manchester United legend Roy Keane attacked supporters who entered the pitch after another embarrassing attack on a player after Manchester City won the Premier League.

It is becoming a disturbing trend as fans arrive on the pitch after a big win but decide to target an opposing player.

The first such instance took place during the Championship semi-final play-off between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United, where the Blades’ Billy Sharp was headbutted gratuitously.

Two days later, a similar test occurred between Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira and an Everton fan.

After the Toffees’ 3-2 comeback win to preserve their league status, a fan approached Vieira and protested against the Frenchman, who would kick him.

The most recent incident, which followed Manchester City’s brilliant 3-2 win over Aston Villa on May 22, was marred by a similarly shameful act.

A fan assaulted Villains goalkeeper Robin Olsen as supporters flooded the pitch at the Etihad with Manchester City celebrating Premier League success.

Keane has condemned the rude actions of fans directed at players and managers during turf invasions. He told Sky Sports (via Mirror):

“It’s embarrassing. I tell you, a player or a manager is going to be seriously injured. If you’re crazy enough to go in and punch a player then you’re dumb enough to stab them or something. What That’s going to be crazy. I think people have come back from Covid and forgotten how to treat themselves.”

Keane used strong words to describe the offenders.

“Idiot. Idiot. It’s shameful. A player walks out onto the pitch and gets attacked, we’ve seen that in the week, Patrick Vieira. Totally disgraceful.”

Neville, Keane and Redknapp shared their outrage after the Aston Villa goalkeeper was assaulted multiple times as he left the pitch.

Another Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, also tore down the pitch invaders that brought the football calendar in England to an end. He told Sky Sports (via Mirror):

“Over the last 20, 30 years we’ve bought fences for English football and the supporters respect 99% of the time you’re off the pitch. They enjoy the home environment. months, we have guys. Stupid running on the pitch, but if you’re attacking the players and the manager – what are you doing?”

Shocking footage has emerged of Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen being assaulted multiple times as he leaves the Etihad Stadium.

There have been numerous calls for fans who enter the pitch to now receive lifetime bans from their respective clubs.

What was once a great experience seeing fans join their beloved players on the pitch, now leads to scenes of violence against the opposition.
