PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — If you’re even thinking of booking vacation air travel, AAA says the time is now.
We’ve had a pretty busy summer travel season, so travel experts have a guide to follow if you’re looking to save money and avoid a travel headache.
If you’ve been traveling a lot lately, you know that prices are at record highs and inventory is low.
Unfortunately this will not change over the busy holiday season so now is the time to book.
“Inventory is now plentiful and you have a better chance of getting what you want, the seats you want and the flights you want,” says Jana Tidwell, a spokeswoman for AAA. “Right now there are much better prices than waiting closer to the holidays.”
Now let’s talk about the delays and cancellations that have plagued travelers all summer.
AAA suggests padding your vacation if you can. Fly a day or two earlier if you have an appointment or event at the other end, e.g. B. a cruise.
Travel experts also recommend taking the first flight in the morning.
“If you get on that flight and get to your destination early, you’ll have the edge,” says Tidwell. “But if something should happen to this flight, you have the rest of the day and increased chances of arriving at your destination on the same day.”
If you initially take a later flight and it is cancelled, it may take a day or two for you to be rebooked.
AAA is saying at the moment that we should always have travel insurance, it pays off when it comes to lost luggage, delays and other expenses.
In addition to downloading the airline’s app, we should always check in 24 hours before a flight.
“It sounds silly because if you have a ticket, they should know you’re coming,” says Tidwell. “But many flights are still overbooked, so check in at least 24 hours in advance to officially reserve your seat.”
