IKEA will install Electrify America’s fast EV chargers at over 25 US stores

The next time you buy DIY furniture, you might not have to worry about charging your electric vehicle. IKEA has reached an agreement to offer Electrify America’s fast chargers in more than 25 stores across the US. The rollout brings over 200 individual chargers to stores in 18 states, including California, Florida, New York, Texas and Washington. They offer charging speeds between 150kW and 350kW and will serve both customers and IKEA’s fleet.

The first chargers will be available towards the end of 2022. The companies expect to complete the rollout by the end of 2023.

IKEA’s stake is tiny compared to Electrify America’s overall expansion plans, which aims to have 1,800 fast charging stations (10,000 chargers) across North America by the end of 2025. However, this is still a significant start. That guarantees relatively fast charging for compatible electric vehicles (like the Ioniq 5 and Taycan) at one of the country’s most popular furniture chains – you can buy this dresser knowing you’ve got the reach to carry it home. That could spur adoption of electric vehicles, not to mention IKEA can back its claims of being eco-friendly.
