A chef shared his tried-and-true cooking technique for preventing seared meat from sticking to the pan.

Chef Mike (@detroit75kitchen) filmed himself in the kitchen holding a steel skillet Video on tik tok.

“Kitchen hack,” he said. “How to use your non-stick sear pan.

“First, use some water. If it starts to evaporate like that, it’s not done yet,” he said.

Instead, the chef recommended waiting until the pan is so hot that the water looks like little beads when it hits the pan.

“It’s what you want. When you start moving like mercury Ready to go.”

“You have to be careful. That’s why you test it with water, not oil. If you test it with oil and the pan is too hot, you get a bloody mess,” he said.

After using the water trick, he said it was time to cook the meat of his choice.

“Now that your pan is ready, you’re ready. Put some oil in it. Ready to sear. No sticking. Look at that,” he said.

Mike also assured that the trick works on a variety of pans and meats.

“It works on any pan,” he said. “You can use any meat you like.”

The video attracted many viewers who shared their thoughts in the comments section.
