The pediatric emergency doctor and child safety expert Dr. Ness shared the tip with her followers on Tiktok.
She shared a photo comparing two bedrooms in the same house after a house fire: one is practically perfect while the other is completely burned out.
This is because one room’s door was closed during the fire while the other room’s door was left open.
She explained: “So that’s a perfect picture so you can actually see the difference if you keep the bedroom door open or closed in the event of a fire.
“If you see, this was a fire in the same house. It was set up for research purposes.”
While pointing to the two completely different rooms, she asked, “If you were unlucky enough to have a house fire, which room would you rather be yourself and which room would your kids rather be in?”
In another video, she explained the science behind why closing the bedroom door makes such a big difference in the event of a house fire.
She explained: “Keeping your doors closed reduces the amount of carbon monoxide entering bedrooms in the event of a fire.
“It reduces the heat in the room, increases the amount of oxygen, which increases the chances of survival and the time to rescue.”
Her video amassed over 90,000 likes and commenters were grateful for Dr. whoa
“Wow. I had no idea. Thanks,” one viewer wrote, while another commented, “Oh my god thanks for that!”
