I’m a former flight attendant – here’s seven mistakes people make in plane toilets

MANY travelers focus on feeling comfortable during their flights – but have you ever thought about the cleanliness of the plane?
One area on the plane in particular is the dirtiest place on board, and a former flight attendant shared tips on how to have a cleaner experience.

A former flight attendant spoke to Sanctuary Bathrooms about why the toilet is the dirtiest place on a plane.
They have also provided some dos and don’ts to have the cleanest possible experience along the way to your destination.
WEAR A MASK ON THE LOI
The flight attendant said, “The airplane toilet is essentially a closet with no clean air. There is no window and ventilation is poor.”
According to the former warden, this means that every time you go to the toilet, you’re breathing in the air that every other passenger was breathing – including feces.
She said: “You could also inhale potential fecal particles, which allow air to circulate after a toilet flush.”
Don’t brush your teeth
The water on a plane all comes from the same water tank and is usually unfiltered, according to the former companion.
She said: “Use bottled water, but my number one piece of advice would be don’t take your toothbrush or toilet bag anywhere near an airplane toilet.”
AVOID TOUCHING THE BLOCK SEAT
She said: “Avoid direct contact with as many surfaces as possible in the airplane toilet stall.
“It starts with opening the door. Instead, they advise touching the handle with your foot or with disposable plastic gloves.
“You should definitely wipe down any surface before touching it, but if that’s not possible, grab a few sheets of toilet roll and use them to avoid touching anything directly with your fingertips.”
The former flight worker recommended hovering over the toilet seat so as not to touch it.
SHOWER AFTER LANDING
The flight expert recommended: “Once you arrive at your destination, wash your clothes and scrub them thoroughly.
“I used to take a shower right after work and sometimes the water turned brown!”
KEEP YOUR TRAINERS ON
You could end up with wet socks if you go to the bathroom without shoes.
The expert warned: “Due to the high probability of imbalances and people missing the toilet bowl, there could be urine on the floor.
“Imagine carrying that from your sock to your shoe and back to your home—that would be incredibly unsanitary.”
WEAR ANTI-BAK
The former cabin crew member explained: “Most flight attendants have always carried around pocket-sized bottles of hand sanitizer on flights to use when needed and I would encourage passengers to do the same.
“Especially before and after using the toilet (as well as washing your hands with soap).”
AVOID USING THE LOOS AT THESE TIMES
“The worst time to use the airplane toilet is just before takeoff and at the very end of a flight, especially if it’s a long-haul flight,” said the former flight attendant.
Turbulence can cause an upset stomach for many passengers – and many don’t like airplane food either.

They said, “Plane food is not nutritious. It can be oily and high in salt and fat; Things that aren’t usually good for gut health or bowel movements.
“Once the signs are down, people who need to go to the bathroom and those who feel sick rush to the bathroom.”
