A PROFESSIONAL hairstylist has revealed why an oil treatment for your hair might not be the best idea – it’s more harmful than you think.
Your hair is feeling dry and in dire need of some love and care, and the first thing on your mind is to run to the kitchen to get some oil.
But as popular as this inexpensive DIY hair treatment is, one guru in the industry has insisted it only makes your tresses drier.
Dusty, who posts on TikTok under the username @curlvisionn, uploaded a video to social media urging other beauty fans to rethink their hair care routine.
“All that oil you put in your hair is killing your hair,” claimed the LA-based pro.
“It goes in there, it can’t get out. It doesn’t mix with water and then you have to jump to a clarifying shampoo that’s super harsh.”
This, he went on to explain in the now-viral clip, will not only remove all of the oil but “everything else with it,” leaving your tresses “even drier” than they were when they started.
“Now you’re going to do something, add more oil to cover up this dryness.
“It’s a downward synergy that will only leave you with a bunch of broken hair.”
Having been posted less than 24 hours ago, the clip has already taken social media by storm and sparked quite a bit of online debate.
While some thanked the genius for sharing his professional opinion, others insisted that oiling their locks worked like a charm.
“lol watch indian who oils weekly and my hair is perfect!” one viewer hit back.

Someone else would continue to use this method: “The Mediterranean has used olive oil and argan oil for centuries…I stand by it.”
“Now I’ve been using oil on my hair and it made it grow, look and feel better so with this one I’m just listening to my hair,” was a third unconvinced.
“Personally, I only listen to people with long hair,” chuckled another in the comments.
Since sticking to oil is no longer an option, it might be worth trying a hack that will make it soft and shiny and stop the grease.
One beauty fan Abbey Yung took to TikTok to share her simple trick to keep your hair from getting greasy and it’s definitely worth trying.
Abbey regularly shares her beauty and hair recommendations on social media, and one of her most recent recommendations involves using micellar water to stop grease build-up.
The TikTok user has a whopping 654.8K followers and 17.8 million likes, and often shares clever beauty tips and tricks.
Abbey uploaded her latest video with the caption “ok whatttt” in which she demonstrates how to use micellar water on her hair.
She said, “Let’s test the micellar water before the shampoo to see if it cleans even better.”
Abbey showed off her hair before using micellar water, which she described as “super oily.”
The beauty genius explained, “I applied the micellar water directly to my scalp and evenly saturated my roots.”
She then rubs it in, does a first round of shampoo, and then a second batch of shampoo.
Abbey washes off the double shampoo and then shows the finished result.
Abbey’s hair not only looks great, she says it feels great too.
She exclaimed, “Wow, my hair feels so clean.
“Also so soft and shiny!
You may be wondering – why isn’t the shampoo and conditioner working?
Abbey said: “It’s definitely not a must – trying new things is what makes TikTok fun for me!
“Take what works for you, leave what doesn’t work.
“I didn’t expect it to work so well.”
Beauty fans were intrigued by the tech and used the comments to express it.
One person said: “Abby you’re about to make me do something stupid with my hair!!!!”
Another added: “Oooh interesting!!!!”
