Each individual hair type has different needs for proper protection from the sun, she explained.

Fine, frizzy and curly hair can all be affected differently by heat and humidity.

Singer Taylor Swift knows firsthand how to cope with curly hair during a heat wave.

Byrd shared helpful tips on how to keep beautiful, frizz-free curls all summer long.

#1 BRAIDES

According to Byrd, if you’re new to styling a braid look that works on fine, curly, or frizzy hair, the fishtail braid is a great introductory style for keeping hair completely out of your face.

If you have frizzy or curly hair in knotless braids, you can style it with the braiding knot technique.

This is a great protective style that protects the hair and scalp from harmful UV rays.

#2 Heat Free Hair

This year, heat-free curlers have taken TikTok and the world by storm.

Now people are reaching for ties for dressing gowns, socks, and pretty much any household item that can keep hair in place overnight.

#3 SUNBATHING STYLES

Braid crowns, topknots and high ponytails are great protective hairstyles that reduce direct sunlight and give you the freedom to relax on a hot day.

Byrd recommends avoiding styles that add extra hair on the face and neck, as it can cause overheating.

#4 PROTECTIVE STYLES

A protective style is anything that protects your hair from the sun and the harmful effects of the environment.

Byrd said wearing hairstyles like buns, braids, and cornrows can protect and keep your hair clean and help retain moisture.

#5 BUBBLE STYLES

Textured Afro puff bubble bangs are similar to the traditional ponytail but a little more fun.

Byrd said the bubble bangs are a great way to keep all hair off the body, especially on long to medium length hairstyles.

Regardless of hair type, she explained that it’s important to protect hair by using heat protectants, wearing a hat or scarf, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
