“Buying bread is strategic,” he began. “If you follow this particular strategy, you can extend the shelf life of your bread for days.”

He explained that the plastic clips on the bread bags are colored to match the day the bread was baked.

“You can tell what day the bread was baked by the color of the clip,” he said.

Howlett then listed which colors corresponded to which days and recommended that viewers only select bread baked that day or the day before for the freshest bread.

His TikTok video has already been viewed more than 3.2 million times and the views are still growing.

He originally posted the clip in response to another user’s question, “What did you find out late in life that you should have known earlier but just didn’t know?”

Howlett responded immediately, saying, “I found out I’ve been buying bread wrong my entire life.”

For his loyal viewers, he also added another bonus tip on how to keep the bread fresh.

“You can store your bread for a day or two longer so that oxygen doesn’t get into the bread,” he explained.

“You just have to turn around [the bag] and open the [remainder] until it’s layered all the way down again,” he added.

He then demonstrated via video how to turn the bag inside out and close it without additional clips.

Viewers were impressed to learn such simple tricks for better bread.

“I feel like you taught me more valuable life skills than high school did!” commented one follower.

Another added, “Can’t wait to find out what else I made or bought wrong.”

Howlett also gave his followers a tip on how to keep their store-bought bread fresh.
