In her VideoTikTok user Dara Huang (@dara_huang) shared the “four things you should never do if you want your home to look bigger.”

As a first tip, the TikToker recommended going for a larger rug instead of a smaller one.

“Ideally, you want a giant rug that extends beyond your furniture,” she explained.

Dara also advised her followers to avoid smaller pieces of art and instead layer images like a gallery or pick one large piece.

She said: “Actually, a giant work of art draws the eye upwards and expands the space.”

For her next recommendation, she explained the importance of wall color.

“If you have a small space, painting it dark will often make it seem smaller, so paint your walls nice and light and white,” Dara told viewers.

As a final tip, she emphasized the need for a mirror to expand the appearance of a room.

“If you have a small space, adding a large mirror looks great because it really brings all the light in and reflects the space around it, creating depth,” she said.

TikTok users shared their own interior design hacks in the comments section.

“Big lamps always look better than small ones in my opinion,” wrote one viewer.

Another follower said: “Thank you for that. I don’t really agree with the point about the dark colors. I’ve seen how dark spaces create depth and feel big, especially with good lighting.”

“Stay away from the same color palette as this one, it looks so lifeless, soulless and boring,” a third person suggested.
