In her videotapesTikTok user Janine Mandell (@janinemandell.re) explains that furniture placement can completely transform a space.

The TikToker told her followers: “Contrary to popular opinion, your stuff really doesn’t have to be pushed against the wall.

She continued: “Putting furniture away from the wall makes the space feel psychologically larger.

“If you’ve ever browsed Zillow or Redfin, or been to an open house, you may have noticed that furniture, usually couches, is pulled away from the wall,” explains Janine.

She pointed out that “sometimes [couches] even hovering in the middle of the room.”

Real estate experts admit, some spaces are too small to try tipping.

“I understand that couches aren’t always appropriate in this situation but if you have a smaller space, try something as small as your nightstand,” suggests Janine.

She recommends pulling your nightstand a few inches from the wall.

She adds: “If you try a nightstand, make sure it pulls away from all three sides.

Janine also advises her followers to try the trick on an accent chair.

“Have fun with it and play around,” she told her audience.
