Julie (@juliejonesdesigns) shared the typing video with over 300,000 TikTok followers.

“A hot topic in the comments on many of my videos is the height of the TV and whether or not you should have a TV over the fireplace,” she said.

She believed that a homeowner could always hang a TV in their home, but should keep height and spacing in mind.

“There are instances where I’ve made exceptions to my own rules, like in this living room,” she said.

“The first rule I personally like to follow is to have the TV at eye level.”

She explained that when someone sits too close and the TV is high, it can cause neck problems.

“I would recommend tilting the TV down and getting a chair,” she said.

Her second rule is: keep your distance from the TV in order to have a comfortable viewing experience.

“I don’t want to be more than 3 meters away. Here we have a beautiful image that tells us that it’s great when your TV fills about 30% of your viewing angle,” she explained.

“That means if I’m sitting 10 feet away I can have a pretty big TV, which also has to take sound propagation into account.”

People used the comments to share their opinions on their attitude.

Many agreed: “Eye-level TV really changes everything,” said one commenter.

“For this reason, we have decided not to have a fireplace in our house. The big TV takes center stage lol,” said another.
