But she says that while the work can be rewarding, rescue burnout is also very real.

Kay Banks (@theceoofcats), the owner of Tabby Tails Cat Rescue, opened up about her struggle in a video shared with over 1.9 million TikTok followers.

She stated she was exhausted from the 31 new rescue missions, many of which starved to death.

“I don’t have spaying and neutering places for these cats and I don’t have the money either. It’s going to cost $5,200 to get necessities for all of these cats that we’ve recently taken in,” she said.

Adding to the financial strain, Kay explained that caring for the kittens took up most of her time and that it interfered with her sleep schedule.

“I’m bottle feeding right now, which means I have to get up every four hours to feed these kittens, and I haven’t been able to get back to sleep for the past few days,” she said.

Kay’s experience is not uncommon in rescue operations and she has extended her time working on site. detail their experiences removing large numbers of cats from the euthanasia list.

Oftentimes, cat rescuers take matters into their own hands to save lives.

“I worked at this animal shelter in Kentucky where the lady who volunteered there smuggled the cats out and hid them in her shed,” she recalls.

“[She was] I’m trying to get them into rescue operations before they can be euthanized.

In one VideoKay revealed the number of kittens currently housed at her shelter, a total of 52 kittens and 120 adult cats.

Her shelter is mostly free-roaming, allowing the cats to “run around and play as they’re supposed to,” according to her website.

She explained that animal shelters like hers are in constant need of supplies like trash and food, and encouraged viewers to donate money whenever possible.

People used the comments to thank her for her selfless work and dedication to local cats.

“You are great. The fact that you’re still going after all of this is amazing. God bless you,” said one supporter.

“Boost! Thank you to all rescuers!” said another fan.
