Incredible horse gives punters ‘shivers’ as jaw-dropping run sees him awarded highest rating in history

How can a horse be so good that punters think he’s sure to win a race next May?

Well, that’s exactly the impression made by the incredible city of Troy after ridiculing its pathetic rivals in Newmarket.

The Aidan O’Brien superstar, who gave the spectators goosebumps, dominated the superlative stakes of Group 2 to win by six and a half lengths.

It was his second win in two starts and bookmakers immediately made him a 3-1 and 4-1 favorite for the Guineas 2000 and Epsom Derby respectively.

Those races aren’t for ten and eleven months from now – but it shows how amazing this two-year-old stallion was.

City Of Troy is a son of Triple Crown winner Justify and descends from a winning Group 1 mare. City Of Troy is immaculately bred.

History has shown that this is not necessarily a sign of future success.

But in the case of this horse, it’s hard to say otherwise.

One player said City Of Troy’s win at Newmarket gave them “goosebumps”, while another called him a “true superstar”.

That meant racing experts Timeform gave it a rating of 119p in their system, with the ‘p’ indicating further improvements to come.

The score was also the highest awarded to a horse in the history of the race – since it was first held in 1986.

And O’Brien, who isn’t usually one to overdo it, was one of those who lavished praise on his next superstar.

He said: “It’s an unnatural ability. He is a very unusual horse.”

“He’s incredible mentally. No matter how fast you want to go, he can keep pushing and push up with everything we have.”

“Ryan couldn’t pull him up last time (his first run) at the Curragh and I knew he would go on sooner at Newmarket as there isn’t that much pull up after the finish line here!”

“I was on the line and he passed me and started walking again, so I was like, ‘Oh no’!”

“He is such a beautiful horse, a good-natured horse too.

“He has a nice step, a good balance and everything you could dream of in a horse.”
