India’s GDP Jumps as Consumer Spending Revives, Covid Fears Ebb

NEW DELHI – India’s economy grew 13.5% year-on-year in the April-June quarter as concerns about the coronavirus eased and consumer spending allowed to resume, but economists see signs the pent-up demand may be starting to ease.
Gross domestic product released on Wednesday, which showed growth for the first quarter of India’s fiscal, benefited from a year-on-year comparison when the economy virtually ground to a halt as a devastating coronavirus wave swept the country.
