The island lies in the Firth of Clyde, over the water from the bustling seaside town of Largs, North Ayrshire.

And only 90 minutes from Glasgow.

In 2022, The Times named the Isle of Bute the best place to live in Scotland.

The island is notable for its beautiful beaches, including the popular Ettrick Bay on the west coast of the island overlooking Arran.

Scalpsie Bay is also a hidden gem for tourists.

Visitors can take the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay – crossing the water takes just over half an hour.

The island also has its own music festival called ButeFest, taking place on July 28-30 this year.

It is described as “a non-stop weekend of live music, family, friends and fun in Ettrick Bay”.

Music fans can hear bands like Big Country and Skerryvore.

Tourists can enjoy the exciting gin garden at Mount Stuart House – a stunning Victorian mansion.

The mansion houses Isle of Bute Gin and the garden is behind the huge house.

There are also other fascinating buildings to visit on the island.

12th Century Rothesay Castle is steeped in history and has strong ties to Scottish royalty of the past.

The castle even has a round sandstone wall.
