Inside the Benidorm-themed bar in the UK with bingo, karaoke and cabaret

BENIDORM is one of the most popular overseas holiday destinations for Britons due to its warm weather and cheap alcohol.

However, for those unable to travel to Spain to visit, there is a bar in the UK that could offer them a similar experience.

A Benidorm-style bar and cabaret lounge in Whitby, Yorkshire was inspired by the sitcom about the most popular holiday resort.

It was opened last summer by actor Tim Healy who played Les/Lesley Conroy on the ITV show and is called Metunes.

The name comes from its previous identity, The Met Bar and Lounge, and Neptunes – the bar, also from the show.

An important piece of Neptune can be seen in Metunes in the persona of Craig Williams, who was one of the bar’s singers.

He is the resident entertainer in Whitby and runs various cabaret events.

He said the BBC: “Whoever you ask, they’ve heard of Benidorm and the TV show was a failure of its own success because after it aired it inversely encouraged the wrong people.”

“The families were leaving and the bachelor parties were coming in, which is obviously a good thing financially for the bars, but the cabaret scene has also waned a bit.”

“People miss the cabarets and the variety – that’s why we did what we did here in Whitby.”

The bar promises that Craig “will make your evening at Metunes a truly unforgettable experience”.

When the bar opened, the owners said it would bring “a little taste of Benidorm here in Whitby”.

On Thursdays there is Benidorm bingo followed by karaoke, while on Fridays there is both karaoke and a disco.

Saturday is showtime at Metunes, with cabaret followed by a disco before bingo, another cabaret and live music on Sunday lunchtime.

The bar has received some positive reviews since its renaming, with one writing on Facebook: “Nice staff and beer – very welcoming.”

Another added: “Great friendly venue with alternative events and something for everyone. Highly recommended.”

Meanwhile, this Benidorm expert has revealed how partying on holiday can lead to a £1,000 fine.

And Brits have been offered insanely cheap, two-week, all-inclusive holidays to Benidorm over the Christmas and New Year period.
