Instagram makes it a little easier for creatives to make a living off their merch. The social network has introduced the possibility of shopping through chats. Send a message to a small business and you can ask questions, get product details, and check out (with Meta Pay, of course) without leaving the conversation. You can buy and customize this must-have shirt without visiting a website or searching for a shoppable post. The feature is available in some countries through qualifying small businesses. We asked Meta for more details.
Chat-based shopping isn’t a surprising move. In many countries you can already shop via WhatsApp chats. This extension could make Instagram chats for shopping just as profitable, and could be especially useful in North America and other regions where WhatsApp doesn’t have much influence. Last but not least, this makes Instagram a full-service storefront — you may never have to leave the app to assuage your concerns.
