Intimate Christmas market crowned ‘best in Europe for 2023’ is in one of the cheapest cities

THE best Christmas market in Europe has been revealed – and you’ve probably never heard of it.
For 12 years, Budapest has had an intimate Christmas market called Advent Bazilika.
The small Christmas market takes place in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica in the Hungarian capital.
Advent Bazilika was named the best Christmas market in Europe by the travel website Europe’s best travel destinations.
They established their rankings after receiving votes from more than 300,000 traveler across the globe.
Thanks to its warmth and charm, the Hungarian Christmas market has secured the top spot for the last three years.
They said: “It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe.”
At this year’s market, visitors will find hundreds of wooden stalls selling handmade gifts and local delicacies such as langos (a fried flatbread) and goulash (a warm soup).
The small Christmas market also has an ice skating rink and festive lights are projected onto the outside of the cathedral.
The Christmas market is open from November 24th, 2023 to December 31st, 2023.
While entry to the Christmas market is free, visitors must pay for any purchases they make at market stalls.
And it’s not just travel experts who praise the little-known Christmas market, holidaymakers also rave about it.
In one review On TripAdvisor, one person wrote: “This market is small but nice, with a good selection of craft and food stalls.”
A second added: “This Advent market had more Christmas spirit and a more pleasant atmosphere than the Christmas market in Vörösmarty Square.”
“Although the range The food and traditional Christmas decorations were the same as at Vörösmarty, it felt much nicer and cozier.”
Advent Bazilika is not the only Christmas market in Budapest, there are also several others, including the Christmas market at Vörösmarty Square.
The Christmas market at Vörösmarty Square is right in the heart of the city and also offers handmade gifts and traditional food.
There will also be a small parade that the youngest market visitors can ride for free.
