IPL 2022 Playoffs: “He didn’t want RCB to qualify!”

Retired Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has stated that his former teammate Parthiv Patel does not want Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to qualify for the knockout round. Patel was criticized on social media after claiming that Bengaluru would not qualify for the knockout round.

But the 37-year-old was at Wankhede Stadium to support the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their encounter with Delhi Capitals (DC), despite knowing that the Royal Challengers would qualify if MI won.

#KKRVRCB# IPL2022 Parthiv Patel: If RCB is struggling in the chase for number 130, it looks like they will have a hard time breaking into the Top 4 at the end of the season

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag pulled Patel’s leg with a light-hearted joke by saying that the former badminton player didn’t want MI to win in order for Bengaluru to qualify for the knockout stages. He say:

“If it was in his (Patel’s) hands, he wouldn’t have gone to the stadium. Because he doesn’t want RCB to qualify! (Laughs). He only went there because there was an order they wanted. to question him about something.”

“I had RCB in second place from the start” – Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel claims that he received unnecessary criticism when Royal Challengers qualified for the IPL 2022 knockout round. The 37-year-old said that Bengaluru was always on the list for the knockout round. and he went to the stadium to cheer for both of his old teams.

Regarding this, Patel said:

“You can check my spin this season. I left RCB in second place from the start. There were so many false blames on me that I didn’t want them to make it to the knockout stages. I even posted on Instagram with an MI jersey but also with a red mask supporting them.”

This season has been an emotional journey for #MumbaiIndians. With so many chapters teaching valuable lessons, I hope for a stronger comeback next time for the Mumbai Indians.

Sehwag believes Bengaluru hasn’t played bad cricket to be eliminated in the Qualifiers for two consecutive years. He just feels that the opposition used to have some confidence when they played against the Royal Challengers. He added:

“RCB didn’t play badly in Eleminator. They tried their best but the confidence of the opposition increased dramatically when they knew they were playing against them.”

Faf du Plessis and his men will now need to win three games in a row to finally claim that elusive first IPL title.
