IPL 2022: Shoaib Akhtar discusses MS Dhoni’s future with CSK

Former Pakistan player Shoaib Akhtar has stated that MS Dhoni can return as player and captain for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) next IPL season if he so wishes. He added that, if not a player, the legendary goalkeeper could take on the role of a mentor or head coach.

Chennai has had a disastrous 2022 IPL season, winning only four of their 12 matches so far. Their campaign was marred by the captaincy controversy. Ravindra Jadeja was given the helm at the start of the season, but Dhoni was reappointed captain mid-season.

With hopes of kicking off the playoffs for the season to end, CSK will now look forward to building a team for the future. Akhtar talks about the role the legendary Dhoni could play for the franchise in the future. Sportskeeda:

“He can obviously keep playing next season if he wants to. But, if he doesn’t want to continue playing, he could return as a mentor or even head coach. It would be a good role for him. It all depends on Dhoni. He is an asset. Either he’s on the team or with the team. ”

Sharing his view on the failure in the captaincy, ‘Rawalpindi Express’ thinks that Chennai’s management doesn’t seem to be that serious, that’s why the matter escalated to such a degree. . he chose:

“This time CSK’s management doesn’t seem serious. Why the captaincy came to Jadeja, we don’t know. But they need to come back in good spirits next season.”

Jadeja recently exited the CSK biobubble amid rumors of a rift between the almighty company and management. However, the franchise’s official statement on the matter stated that Jadeja was released because they did not want to risk further injury to his ribs.

“Dhoni may just play another song and announce his retirement” – Shoaib Akhtar

When asked if he feels Dhoni will announce his retirement from IPL after the ongoing season, Akhtar replied that no one could read what was going on in the mind of the former India captain. He commented:

“Dhoni could have just played another song and announced his retirement. One can’t really predict what he might do. That’s just his kind of person. If he suddenly felt that he had to retire, he would do it. Honestly, it’s time for a few players. There are no ifs and buts in franchise cricket. “

Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 with a social media post which featured a montage chronicling his Indian career and a classic Bollywood song playing to it.
