IPL 2022: “They haven’t had stability, performances have been inconsistent”- Mpumelelo Mbangwa on KKR’s problems

Former Zimbabwe cricketer Mpumelelo Mbangwa believes that the constant cutting and changing of their lineup by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is one of the main reasons why they are in first place in the scoreboard at the moment. .

KKR had a great start to the tournament, winning three of their first four games. But then, they lost 5 games in a row and now they are in a dead-end situation going into the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Mbangwa explained how Kolkata foresees that their best XI will be available after just the first few games. He say:

“I think at the start of the tournament, a couple of guys that weren’t there in their minds, were already part of their best squad. So they looked in their direction and said, ‘Okay. , you play a few games until those aren’t available. But when they’re ready, they play because this is our first XI.'”

The 45-year-old also spoke of how the failure of some of their first-choice players had forced KKR to make a series of changes, leading to instability within the team. He added:

“But what happens is a couple of men have some running, zigzag runs and then it drops everything because you’re like, ‘Oh, but we have to make this change.” And when they hit the field, you’ll slide up and down. And now they’ve made 20 weird changes, which is the most by far. So they haven’t got the stability yet and that’s why their performance is inconsistent as well. “

SRH may want T Natarajan and Marco Jansen back against KKR: Mpumelelo Mbangwa

Mbangwa also sheds light on how SRH wants to approach their encounter with KKR. At one stage, they were second in the scoreboard, having won 5 games in a row.

But since then, they have lost all the time and are in the same win-win situation as KKR. The 45-year-old thinks that if left-hander T Natarajan is right, both he and Marco Jansen should return to the SRH XI. He stated:

“It’s two lefties (Natarajan and Jansen) that you want to come back to. They offer an international experience and they are very different. One is tall and will give bounce and return length. The other. to be right at the base of the tree and always with you and good in the back.”

Mbangwa also believes that not playing a game for a few days can give SRH a chance to think about what happened to them and possibly help them come back strong. He added:

“I think it’s good they’ve had a bit of a break because after a particularly good start they can get off the wheel. They’re in a downward spiral and finding it difficult to come out. That’s the nature of this tournament. So it’s good that they’ll have time to regroup and hope that they can return to those performances when they did so well at the start of the tournament.”

Given the situation of many teams in the scoreboard, losing to KKR or SRH could mean their race to the IPL 2022 playoffs.
