IRS worker sold morphine to co-worker, who then overdosed

While working for the IRS in Fresno, a woman sold morphine to a colleague, who then overdosed and died, federal prosecutors say.

Margarita Aispuro-Camacho, 46, pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to selling morphine that contributed to the death, US attorneys said in a press release.

In 2020, while an employee of the Internal Revenue Service in Fresno, Aispuro-Camacho sold morphine pills that she had been prescribed to a co-worker.

The colleague fatally overdosed on the pills the next day, prosecutors said.

It wasn’t the first time Aispuro-Camacho had sold drugs that had been prescribed to her, officials said.

She made “a few thousand dollars” from at least five sales to the person.

Aispuro-Camacho faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine at her June 20 conviction.
