Why isn’t Facebook Messenger working?

Some Facebook Messenger users have reported that the app does not work at all, while others have encountered issues with some features.

At around 11am UK time, Down Detector registered a spike in reports.

It is not clear why the problem occurred.

But it comes as Facebook has launched its brand new Threads app.

Users were quick to complain about the issue on Twitter.

How have users reacted?

Some users have claimed that the app was not responding.

But others have said they simply can’t send photos.

The error message appears: “Could not be sent.”

“Omfg Messenger is down again. I wanted to send a video of my cat,” said one user.

“For those wondering, Facebook Messenger is down for some, preventing you from sending photos. It just shows they weren’t sent,” added another.

How can I check if the problem is widespread?

The DownDetector is a useful tool to check if there are issues with certain services – including social media platforms and phone lines.

The site allows users to report any problem they encounter. A live outage map is then generated.

It shows how widespread the problem is and whether it only occurs in a specific area.

There is also an opportunity for users to comment and explain the problems encountered.
