Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has cast doubt on Thiago Alcantara’s fitness ahead of the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28.
Klopp’s side narrowly lost their Premier League title to Manchester City on the final day (May 22) of the season against Manchester City. However, it is not without a series of twists and turns.
The Red Devils conceded an early goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, they organized a comeback full of spirit, meaning the team this season and won with a score of 3-1.
Meanwhile, Manchester City fought back against Aston Villa, who went 2-0 down to win 3-2 and claim the title in a memorable final day.
Thiago’s dazzling form sent Liverpool back to the game against Wolves after Pedro Neto scored the opening goal for the visitors. The Reds midfielder sent a superb pass to Sadio Mane in the 24th minute, who finished clinically.
However, Liverpool fans must have been worried when Thiago limped down the tunnel late in the first half.
The Spaniard was then replaced by James Milner in the second period. Many fear that he will be in the European Cup final in less than a week.
Klopp has now confirmed those concerns by saying the injury does not look good.
He told reporters after the 3-1 win over Wolves (via Watch Anfield):
“It doesn’t look good. We’ll have to see.”
That doesn’t bode well for the Reds’ great Champions League final against Real Madrid, as Thiago has played a key role in midfield.
His creativity has opened up defenses so many times and if he misses the final in Paris there will be concerns about his replacement.
Liverpool are aiming for the Premier League title and now all eyes are on the Champions League final
Liverpool entered the final day of the season knowing that Manchester City would have little chance of winning Premier League glory.
However, Man City managed to do just that when a forgettable first half for Pep Guardiola’s men saw Aston Villa leading 1-0.
Villans did better than it was in the 69th minute thanks to Philippe Coutinho with Anfield starting to believe an unprecedented quartet was in their sights.
When Coutinho scored at the Etihad it was 1-1 at Anfield as Mane’s equalizer put the Reds back on track.
City then staged an unbelievable comeback and despite Liverpool’s own resistance, it was Man City who won the championship.
Now, all the attention is on Paris for Klopp and his team as they want revenge for the 2018 Champions League final. They were desperately beaten 3-1 by Madrid at the time.
