I’ve worked in hotels for years & there’s a common room item guests should avoid because it’s gross

A HOTEL employee has revealed a common item that hotel guests should avoid while staying in their rooms.

In a post on social media site Quora, the hospitality worker explained why anyone staying at a resort should think twice about using the coffee pot in their room.

They said: “You might be surprised how many people use the coffee pots in the room as ashtrays, smoke them and put their butts in them.

“But it’s not just cigarette butts, far more often than I care to know ‘guests’ used the coffee pots to urinate and had a bathroom in the same room.”

Not only did they serve as ashtrays, they even recorded a time when a guest was nauseous in the coffee maker.

While this might sound bad, there was another, possibly worse, reason to avoid the hotel room item.

They said: “The worst thing is not that the coffee machines have to be washed with soap because another product could be harmful to health -[that’s] if they’re washed, of course.”

The hotel clerk concluded by urging guests to stop using coffee pots for their own health in the future.

Despite all the revelations, many in the comments were undeterred by the cleanliness of the coffee machine.

One user wrote: “Before using the hotel coffee machine for the first time, you should check the pot for cleanliness and ideally rinse it thoroughly.”

A second person added, “That may be true, but if it doesn’t smell like piss or ash then past abuse probably won’t bother me.”

While several users noted that they don’t even use the coffee pot in the hotel room, others were more cautious about the item in question.

One wrote, “Not only do I carry my own coffee and single cup maker, I also take my own sheets and pillows.”

But some people found it acceptable to use the pot for every need: “The coffee pot is fair game for everything from dirty socks to ramen soup.”

Another hotel employee showed guests what the inside of a coffee machine really looks like.

Meanwhile, hotel workers at some of the world’s swankiest resorts have revealed disgusting behind-the-scenes secrets.

One B&B owner explained why pictures on a website should never be trusted – and if they’re missing the bathroom, that’s a big no-go.
