Jack Whitehall leaves the audience gasping with a dig at Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield

Comedian Jack Whitehall couldn’t help but crack a joke about Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby – but it left his audience gasping.

The star appeared with his father Michael on BBC One’s Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show.

Jack, who had recently returned from America to embark on a UK tour, answered questions from the host couple.

Rosie told him, referring to his father, “You two seem like you have a wonderful relationship.”

The comedian replied, “Behind closed doors we’re like Holly and Phil. We don’t talk to each other.”

The audience was shocked and presenter Rosie, 36, covered her mouth with her fist at the remark.

Jack, 34, addressed the audience and asked: “What? Come on.”

This comes after The Sun revealed last week that Holly and co-host Phillip barely speak to each other off-camera.

The famous couple have hosted This Morning for 14 years, but their relationship has been strained in recent months.

Sources say issues have been quietly simmering for some time and Holly has distanced herself from Phil off-camera.

A source told The Sun: “When they first worked together in 2009, Phil was the bigger star and he was leading the way.

“Now the tables have turned. Holly is the bigger star of the duo and Phil has a hard time accepting that.”

The couple’s power struggle came to a head last year when they were vilified after being spotted skipping the line for the Queen’s funeral.
