Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reportedly shot during campaign speech, in heart failure

TOKYO, Japan – Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe collapsed, bleeding and suffering from heart failure after he was apparently shot during an election campaign speech in western Japan, public television NHK said on Friday.

NHK says Abe was taken to a hospital.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the apparent attack in Nara. He stood during a campaign speech ahead of Sunday’s election to the upper house of parliament.
