Jenelyn Olsim gunning for ONE 158 win

Jenelyn Olsim is poised to return to the Victory Column as she takes on Julie Mezabarba in her next ONE circuit breakout.

Olsim and Mezabarba will face off in an atomic weight contest at ONE 158: Tawanchai vs. Larsen on June 3rd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Mezabarba fight will be Olsim’s fourth match in the main ONE Championship squad and first since her loss to Ritu Phogat in October 2021.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Olsim said she wanted to get back into the winning column and she wanted to get it over with any way she could.

Jenelyn Olsim said:

“After this unfortunate result, I really want this game to go in my favour. I’m really hungry for this win. If it’s possible, I want to get this fight over with.”

Olsim went 2-0 against Maira Mazar and Bi Nguyen in their first two fights for promotion.

However, her burgeoning winning streak was halted when she suffered a unanimous decision loss to Phogat in the semifinals of the ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix.

However, Olsim was originally not supposed to compete in the Grand Prix. She took up the fight at short notice after Japanese star Itsuki Hirata pulled out of the match due to medical reasons.

Jenelyn Olsim sees a superior striker in Mezabarba

A member of the famous gym Team Lakay, Olsim is an accomplished striker herself, having fought in Muay Thai and Kickboxing before joining ONE Championship.

The 25-year-old also won a bronze medal in the Vovinam competition at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Despite her credentials, Olsim sees Mezabarba as a better striker than her.

Mezabarba holds a professional record of 9-3, with three of her wins coming from knockouts. She also picked up a win over the ever-threatening Mei Yamaguchi when she made her ONE Championship debut in September 2021.

What Olsim does have, however, is an unrelenting will that she wants to use against her Brazilian opponent.

“Mezabarba strikes me as a tough and motivated athlete. I think her shot is superior, but I won’t let that overshadow my strong will to win her.” Jenelyn Olsim gunning for ONE 158 win
