Things are getting spooky on Twitter, where Netflix recently posted a new photo for their upcoming series. Wednesday. The streamer gave fans an update on the countdown until the Addams family child gets her own statement, cheekily writing “7 more Wednesdays to Wednesday” to tease the show’s November 23 release. While it may be past the official Halloween season, we’re sure those looking to keep the tricks and treats going until Thanksgiving will be happy to mark the finale of the holiday with this one.
In the picture we see the titular teenager, played by Jenna Ortega, with her fixed grimace and dead eyes staring at the camera. With her long pigtails and all-black outfit speckled with flowers, Wednesday looks anything but happy with her surroundings. Flanking her daughter on either side are Gomez (Luis Guzman) and Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta Jones). In contrast to their child’s seriously deadly stare, Gomez and Morticia are as smiling as can be, with Gomez glancing fondly at his wife – something the character is known for.
Directed by Tim Burton, the dark comedy will follow on Wednesday when it ships to Nevermore Academy, the school responsible for the romance between Morticia and Gomez many years ago. Here the teenager will hone her psychic tendencies as she confronts the typical afflictions of the teenage years. But things aren’t all spiders and dead roses, as her time in science will lead her on a journey to solve a mystery that has haunted her family for generations.
Ortega, Zeta-Jones and Guzmán will boast a call slip filled to the brim with familiar names Isaac Ordonez as the son of the family and Wednesday’s subject of torture Pugsley, Gwendoline Christie as Nevermore’s headmistress Larissa Weems, Riki Lindhome as dr Valerie Kinbott, Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin, George Burcea as Luch, Victor Dorobantu as thing and joy on Sunday as school rival Bianca Barclay from Wednesday. Returning by popular demand in an undisclosed role Christina Ricc who played the role of Wednesday in Burton’s early ’90s full-length hits, The Addams family and The Addams Family Values.
Through several clips, images and interviews, potential audiences were able to get a first glimpse of what the upcoming production will be like. While, like all things in the Addams family Universe, the series will be gritty but with comedic relief hiding around every corner. If you’re a longtime fan of the franchise, the creators of the series may Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have promised to stay true to the story and tuck several Easter Eggs in plain sight for viewers to catch during the run of the series.
Wednesday Premiered on Netflix on November 23.
